Not just Piroe & Aaronson: Leeds' second-highest earner must never play under Farke again -…

Leeds United have a huge couple of months ahead of them, with the side entering the closing stages of the 2025/26 campaign after the ongoing international break.

Daniel Farke’s side have their Premier League survival hopes firmly in their own hands, with the Whites currently sitting four points above the dotted line.

However, if the club are to bolster their chances of another season of top-flight football, the manager desperately needs to resolve some of the issues within the senior ranks.

The club have now failed to find the back of the net in each of their last four league outings, which has seen the Whites now fail to win any of their last six matches.

Numerous players have consistently failed to provide the goods within the final third this term, with Farke desperately needing to avoid selecting them during the final stages of the season.

Why Aaronson & Piroe must never play for Leeds again

During the 2025/26 campaign, Leeds boss Farke has consistently utilised Brenden Aaronson in a number ten role behind the striker, but the 25-year-old has struggled massively in recent months.

The American international has now featured in all but one league game this term, but he hasn’t been totally convincing over the last few weeks at Elland Road.

He’s now failed to register a single goal or assist in any of his last 12 matches for the Whites, with the midfielder now edging towards three months without a goal contribution.

It’s evident he’s not at the level required for success in the Premier League, with the same potentially being said about striker Joel Piroe - who’s struggled to break into the manager’s plans.

The 26-year-old, who was the Championship’s top scorer last season, has only started two league games this term - subsequently failing to find the net in England’s top-flight.

The Suriname international has had chances to impress in cup competitions, but he’s also failed to deliver in such matches - even missing a penalty against Derby County at Pride Park.

The Leeds player who should never play under Farke again

After promotion to the Premier League last season, the first year back in the top-flight was always going to be a campaign of adaptation and getting used to the demands of the division again.

Farke spent over £90m to make the squad ready for the demands of the league, which highlights the need to improve the squad for any chance of securing survival.

The switch in formation from a four to a three-back system has also pushed numerous players down the pecking order and out of the manager’s thinking for the short-term.

Wilfried Gnonto is just one of the attackers who’s struggled to cement his place in the starting eleven, subsequently featuring from the start in just four league matches to date.

Jack Harrison rejoined the senior ranks in the summer after spending last season on loan at Everton - a decision that was an unpopular one with the fanbase.

The 29-year-old was booed on his return to action in pre-season, but Farke decided to include him in his Premier League squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

He would make 11 appearances for the Whites up until January, with only one of which coming from a starting role - amassing a total of just 263 minutes in the league.

The winger’s penultimate league appearance would come against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest, subsequently being brought onto the pitch with just eight minutes to go.

Harrison would have a cameo to forget as he brought down winger Omari Hutchinson in the penalty area, allowing the hosts to secure a 3-1 win at the City Ground.

He’s been shipped out on loan to Italian side Fiorentina for the remainder of the campaign, which should spell the end to his career at Leeds in Yorkshire.

The attacker has only made eight appearances since joining the Serie A outfit in the winter, also failing to make an impact despite his fresh start in Europe.

Given his struggles at both Leeds and Fiorentina, the Whites desperately need to move the forward on this summer - especially considering his huge wages at Elland Road.

|Leeds United's highest earners (2025/26)|

|Player|Weekly wages|

|---|

|Dominic Calvert-Lewin|£100,000|

|Jack Harrison|£90,000|

|Sean Longstaff|£80,000|

|Daniel James|£75,000|

|Noah Okafor|£72,500|

|Pascal Struijk|£50,000|

|Lucas Perri|£50,000|

Harrison currently earns a staggering £90k-per-week at present - the second-highest of any player in the squad - with only Dominic Calvert-Lewin earning more.

The summer will present another chance for the hierarchy to back Farke and potentially build on the club’s securing their top-flight status come the end of the season.

However, outgoings will be just as important as incomings, with Harrison, Piroe and Aaronson all desperately needing to be moved on to raise added funds.
