Liverpool supporters were treated to a dream midfield on Saturday as Thiago Alcantara and Steven Gerrard finally played together.
The two former Reds midfielders starred during the Liverpool Legends match at Anfield, which ended in a 2-2 draw with Borussia Dortmund.
Thiago was the star of the show, displaying his pure quality throughout an impressive 90-minute showing. The Spaniard’s link-up with Gerrard was at times a joy to behold, and the two legends admitted at full-time that playing together had been a dream come true.

Thiago and Gerrard share mutual respect
Along with Jurgen Klopp’s return to the dugout, the presence of Thiago and Gerrard was the big pull for supporters at Anfield on Saturday.
11 years apart in age, the pair never strutted their stuff together for Liverpool, but asked by LFCTV to comment on the chance to play with Gerrard, Thiago admitted that it was something that will stay with him forever.
“It’s amazing,” said the former No. 6. “Two things got together, Anfield full and playing with this legend [Gerrard]. It was a wonderful moment I will keep with me for sure.”

Standing alongside Thiago, Gerrard confirmed that the respect between the pair was very much mutual.
“It’s easy to play with outstanding players,” said the iconic former Liverpool captain.
“They’re on the same wavelength, you know what each other is going to do. As soon as I saw he [Thiago] was on the list I made myself available. The respect is mutual.”
With Liverpool supporters given a glimpse into just how good these two could have been while playing together in their respective primes, they will already be looking ahead to next year, hopeful of a repeat during the 2027 March international break.
