Andy Robertson is closing in on Kenny Dalglish’s record for all-time Scotland appearances, with the two Liverpool greats often joking about the matter together.
Robertson is set to lead the Scots into their first World Cup since 1998 this summer, with Dalglish‘s record firmly within his sights.
Currently sitting on 91 caps, the Liverpool left-back is only 12 shy of beating the iconic former Reds’ No. 7’s tally of 102. And according to Robertson, Dalglish has not been shy in sharing his thoughts.

Dalglish jokes with record-targeting Robertson
Dalglish’s status as arguably Scotland’s greatest ever player will not be beaten by Robertson, but with the 32-year-old well capable of breaking his appearances haul, ‘King Kenny’ has been joking that the busier international football calendar is the only thing allowing him to be caught.
Asked by BBC Scotland whether the record has been going through his mind as he edges closer towards it, Robertson revealed his chats with Dalglish.
“The Kenny one goes through my head every time I see him, we kind of have a laugh and a joke about it,” he says.

“You know, his reply to me is ‘there’s more national games now than there was back then.’ So I think he’d like to attempt to get his boots back on, probably, and rack up a couple more!
“But no, look, playing for your country once is a dream come true, but to be able to do it 90 times has been unbelievable.”
As Robertson’s contract comes towards its inevitable conclusion this summer, he will not play many more times for Scotland as a Liverpool player.
His international career will undoubtedly continue even if his time with the Reds comes to a close, however, and Dalglish should be preparing himself to be overhauled by another of Liverpool’s legendary Scotsmen.
