England decision taken with Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin and injury news as 8 players…

Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his England return in Friday night’s friendly against Uruguay at Wembley.

An England decision has been taken with Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin with eight players leaving the Three Lions camp ahead of Tuesday night’s second March friendly against Japan at Wembley.

Calvert-Lewin’s displays for Leeds this season earned the forward an England recall, the 29-year-old named in Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of Friday night’s friendly against Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay side at Wembley.

Tuchel rested several of his stars for the contest including captain Harry Kane, Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke instead selected to lead the line as Calvert-Lewin began the match from the bench.

Calvert-Lewin was eventually brought on for Solanke shortly after the break and quickly became involved in bright link up play but then squandered a glorious chance to score when heading wide from a few yards out.

The Leeds star, though, was then involved in England’s only goal, launching himself at a corner which went all the way through to Ben White to convert with a tap in at the far post.

“In total, eight players are due to leave camp”

White’s first goal for his country looked set to be the only goal of the game but Uruguay left with a 1-1 draw after converting a controversial late penalty,

England now face another friendly on Tuesday evening against Japan, ahead of which Calvert-Lewin and seven others are now due to leave the camp.

England announced the news with a squad update statement on Saturday night.
