Eddie Howe wants Lewis Miley to stay at NUFC long-term

Newcastle boss Howe has previously expressed his determination to keep hold of Miley long-term, beliving he is a potential club captain in the future.

Miley has already briefly donned the captain’s armband this season in a 3-0 Champions League win over PSV Eindhoven back in January.

“I think there are definite parallels there between Lewy and Elliot, although they’ve had different journeys,” Howe said. “The Elliot situation I’ve commented on a lot, and probably shouldn’t comment on that anymore but I think from Lewy’s perspective, I am determined to keep him here.

Miley has been out for two months with a thigh injury but Howe is hopeful of having him back in action after the international break.

The Newcastle head coach said: “We anticipate [Miley] will be back, hopefully, after the break.”
