The international break arrived at the perfect moment for Arne Slot, who has a packed schedule ahead of Liverpool's return to competitive action. The Reds travel to Manchester City for their FA Cup quarter-final clash next weekend before tackling the opening leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie away to Paris Saint-Germain.

While their European campaign has been impressive, the Reds' domestic displays have raised alarm bells during what has been a thoroughly disastrous title defence. Trailing fourth-placed Aston Villa by five points, the Reds might have to depend on the Premier League earning an additional berth to secure Champions League qualification, barring victory in this season's tournament.

Beyond addressing the gap left by Mohamed Salah's looming exit, it's evident the squad needs significant restructuring before next season, with transfer planning already in motion. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest round-up of Liverpool developments.

The Reds and Newcastle have intensified their pursuit of Luis Suarez - not that one - according to Portuguese media reports. The Sporting forward is experiencing the campaign of his career since his switch from Almeria last summer. The Colombian, 28, has netted 33 goals and provided seven assists in just 42 matches to establish himself as one of Europe's most sought-after forwards. Portuguese publication Correio da Manha claims Liverpool and Newcastle are showing 'intense interest' in Suarez, who remains tied to the Lisbon outfit until 2030 and carries a release clause of approximately £70million.

There's reportedly a widespread belief at the club that it's merely a question of when Suarez will follow in the footsteps of the man he succeeded, Viktor Gyokeres, by making the switch to the Premier League.

While the Reds might be hesitant to splash out £70million on a player approaching his thirties, there are indications Sporting could entertain an offer nearer to £50million. That being said, if Arsenal's relentless chase of Gyokeres serves as any indication, anticipate Sporting to drive a hard bargain.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is once again being touted for a switch to Anfield. The Georgian is experiencing another outstanding campaign for PSG and will be aiming to eliminate Slot's team from the Champions League next month.

With Salah poised for departure, Kvaratskhelia could emerge as his successor, while Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with the 25-year-old.

The Independent recently suggested that Kvaratskhelia's representatives are receptive to a transfer. However, PSG won't permit one of their star performers to depart without resistance. According to TeamTalk, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea have approached the winger's representatives, only to be informed by the European champions that Kvaratskhelia is happy in Paris and has no desire to depart.
