Hungary secured a 1–0 win over Slovenia in an international friendly at the Puskás Aréna on March 28.
It was a controlled performance, but not an easy one.
The first half ended goalless, though Slovenia thought they had taken the lead early.
Danijel Sturm found the net in the 13th minute after a quick break.
The goal was ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Hungary dominated possession with 56 percent and created more chances.
Still, Slovenia stayed dangerous on the counter.
The breakthrough came late.
In the 79th minute, Szabolcs Schön reacted quickest inside the box.
A loose ball dropped to him after a deflection, and he fired a clean volley into the top of the net.
Dominik Szoboszlai played a key role throughout.
He controlled the tempo and created chances, even if he did not score.
Hungary later substituted him in the 87th minute to protect the lead.
Slovenia pushed late, but Balázs Tóth made a crucial save in stoppage time to secure the win.
It was not flashy, but it was professional.
From a Liverpool supporter’s view, the focus quickly shifts to Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez.
Hungarian outlet Nemzeti Sport gave both players a rating of 6 and offered detailed reviews.
On Kerkez, they wrote, “MILOS KERKEZ 6.”
“He moved a lot, his first real pass, the kind many expect from him, came in the 28th minute: he started well and put the ball in front of the goal with his trademark twist, which could easily have been an assist.”
“The loose ball he saw in the 37th minute was strange, he miscalculated a lot there.”
“Like the others, he improved after the break, he ran up a lot and went inside, he was happy to leave his usual zone, he was active.”
For Szoboszlai, who has been recently mentioned in rumours linking him to a move from Liverpool, the report highlighted his influence, “DOMINIK SOBOSZLAI 6.”
“He started with an aggressive attack, appeared everywhere (also in the right-back position out of habit), took on the tricks, enjoyed the game, and in the 18th minute he dangerously twisted the ball into the goal from the wing.”
“He received applause when he replaced the left-back.”
“The first of the two corners before the break was very dangerous, almost a goal, he twisted the ball sharply.”
“He started agilely after the half-time change, he twisted his left in front of Donát Bárány in a spectacular way, creating a goal, just like in the 61st minute for Roland Sallai.”
It was not a headline performance.
But from a Liverpool angle, both players showed work rate, versatility, and moments of quality.
