National media blown away by Everton star who delivered 'near-perfect' display vs Peru

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye was in action for Senegal on Saturday afternoon.

Senegal defeated Peru 2-0 in a friendly match yesterday, with Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr on the scoresheet.

Idrissa Gana Gueye started the clash in the middle of the park, donning the captain’s armband with Kalidou Koulibaly absent.

Senegal’s national media outlet Seneweb delivered their verdict on the Everton star’s performance and it’s fair to say, they were very impressed.

Idrissa Gana Gueye produces ‘near-perfect’ display for Senegal

Gueye, despite approaching his 37th birthday, played the full 90 minutes for Senegal, who made all five substitutes.

That evinces how fit the 129-cap international is, and he still remains one of the best ball-winning midfielders in Europe.

In Seneweb’s player ratings, they explained that Gueye was ‘near-perfect.

“Captain in the absence of Kalidou Koulibaly, Idrissa Gana Gueye delivered another excellent performance.

“Tireless in winning back possession, invaluable in building and organizing the game, the former Diambars player once again impressed with his work rate despite being 36 years old.

“Involved in all of the Lions’ best attacks, the Everton midfielder played a near-perfect match in the middle of the park, making the most of every ball he touched.

“A solid performance from the record holder for international appearances.”

Gueye’s next Senegal game takes place on Tuesday against Gambia before he returns to Finch Farm next month.

Considering he played 90 minutes against Peru, he may be rested for the game or perhaps taken off on the hour mark.

David Moyes will certainly hope so anyway.
