Juventus suffered somewhat of a shock exit in the Champions League this season as they lost their play-off tie to Galatasaray.
Despite fighting back from a 5-2 defeat in the first leg to win the second leg 3-2, they fell short by an aggregate score of 7-5 to the Turkish side.
Juventus also haven’t experienced a great season domestically as they sit in fifth place and face a battle to qualify for the Champions League next season.
If they fail to qualify for the competition next season, it could have a real impact on whether players decide to move on or stay this summer.
One player who faces this dilemma and has reportedly been a Liverpool target for a while now is Khephren Thuram.
The French midfielder was of interest to the Reds in the summer of 2023 ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s final season in charge and they have continued to monitor the player.
Khephren Thuram finds himself at a crossroads as he weighs up a potential contract renewal, or a summer exit if Juventus fail to play Champions League football next season.
Calciomercato report that whether Juventus qualify for the Champions League will have a major role in Thuram’s decision.
Thuram still has three years left on his current deal, but his salary is one of the lowest among Spaletti’s consistent starters at 2.3million euros a year.
The money received for Champions League qualification is vital for Juventus and the report states that if that is not secured, the club would be forced to sacrifice a big player this summer.
As reported, Thuram is not short of potential suitors, especially in the Premier League.
According to Gazzetta, as cited by Calciomercato, “Manchester United have already made inquiries about the player whilst Liverpool must also be kept in mind.”
Juventus currently sit three points off the top four with thirty games played and face a challenge to take their place in Europe’s most prestigious competition.
Whilst they may be confident they can achieve that feat, it will still be tough and if they fail their mission, they may have to accept players such as Thuram seeking a new adventure this summer and with Liverpool keeping tabs on him, this could be a potential transfer to look out for.
