A Leeds United youngster has helped his country’s under-19s to lift off after an international call.

Young Leeds United defender Luke Matykiewicz helped his nation’s under-19s to lift off after getting an international call.

Eighteen-year-old centre-back Matykiewicz has progressed from United’s under-18s to the under-21s this season and the defender was named in Northern Ireland’s under-19s squad for March’s elite round qualifiers for U19 Euro 2026.

Having so far bagged the one cap for the team, Matykiewicz was named on the bench for Wednesday’s clash against the Ukraine and remained an unused substitute in a 1-0 defeat.

Boss Gareth McAuley, though, brought Matykiewicz into his starting line-up for Saturday’s clash against Romania in Clinceni and the Leeds youngster helped his side to a clean sheet which enabled a goalless draw. Matykiewicz played the full duration of the contest in which he was booked with six minutes left.
