Report: Liverpool could 'easily' convince Inter Milan star to join them and could try to get him this summer

Liverpool could get the chance to add to their Dutch contingent this summer with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries.

The pieces are now reportedly in place for Dumfries to move to the Premier League, with three clubs tipped to make a summer approach.

Liverpool have held an interest in Dumfries for some time, and were attempting to initiate discussions during the right-back crisis of the January window.

How many points do you think Liverpool will finish with this season?

It's going to be a LOT less than last year 😬

They are expected to reignite the interest come the end of the season, and the price they would have to pay sounds like a steal for a player of his quality.

Liverpool can sign Denzel Dumfries for £22m

Dumfries has a contract with Inter until 2028, but it includes a release clause of just under £22 million. That, for a player with Champions League and international experience, sounds quite reasonable in today’s market.

L’Interista claim Liverpool, Man United and Man City will be looking at him in the summer.

They go on to say his suitors ‘wouldn’t have any problem’ tempting him to England, with the size of the contract offers on the table making it ‘easy’ to convince the 29-year-old.

Inter are intent on extending him, but no real progress has been made in that regard.

Dumfries has been out for much of this season, but we can look at his time at Inter overall to gauge why he is on the radar of these top teams.

25 goals and 20 assists in almost 200 appearances is outstanding production for a defender. Then you add his imposing 6’2″ frame and strong defensive and physical attributes, and this a player well-equipped for the Premier League.

Denzel Dumfries’ fit at Liverpool

This is a bit of a strange one. Not because the player lacks quality, but because it continues a trend that has yet to bear fruit at Liverpool.

Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong were some of the most attacking options on the full-back market last summer, and Dumfries is of that same ilk.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

But the fact that Liverpool are pursuing a Salah replacement suggests the intention is still to get wide threat from forwards, not wing-backs. We have seen the clash of styles with Salah and Frimpong this season, and it would be the same issue with the Inter star.

At £22 million, it would be solid business from a financial perspective. The real concern is the apparent lack of strategic direction this signing reveals.
