Gio van Bronckhorst has praised the impact of Dick Advocaat on his football career, firstly as a player and now as a coach.

And the Dutchman hasn't ruled out making a managerial return in the near future.

Advocaat brought the former full back to Rangers from Feyenoord back in 1998 and they enjoyed a trophy-laden spell together over the next three years, leading the club to consecutive triumphs in the league and Scottish Cup, as well as a lone League Cup success.

van Bronckhorst - who went onto win major honours with Arsenal and Barcelona - finished his playing career at boyhood club Feyenoord in 2010, and five years later stepped up to become their head coach, with Advcocaat assisting him in an advisory capacity.

He guided the team to the Eredivisie title in 2017 and after a brief spell in charge of Chinese outfit Guangzhou City, followed in Advocaat's footsteps when he was appointed Rangers manager in November 2021 in the wake of Steven Gerrard's exit.

Despite lifting the Scottish Cup and leading the Light Blues all the way to the Europa League final, the 51-year-old was sacked less than 12 months later, and after an unsuccessful stint in charge of Besiktas, joined up with Anfield giants Liverpool last summer as part of compatriot Arne Slot's coaching staff.

And while he insists he is enjoying working his time on Merseyside, van Bronckhorst has opened the door to another managerial role.

Speaking to 1908.nl, the Premier League and Champions League winner was asked about the guidance he received from Advocaat at Feyenoord and replied: "That was very positive. Dick has been an important person in my football career in any case.

"So for me, it was very nice and comforting that he was with us during a difficult period. We all know that period, and it wasn't always easy, but ultimately it turned out very positively, with a lot of success."

On a potential return to the dugout at Feyenoord's De Kuip, he added: "I am having a great time at Liverpool. It is a fantastic club. We’ll see what the future brings.

"Feyenoord will always remain special and connected to me, but right now I am just enjoying what I do in England, and for the Foundation, and that is very diverse.

"Who knows what the future holds."
