Predicting Man Utd's XI for 'Project 150' Premier League title charge in 2028

Manchester United co-owners Ineos are planning to bring the Premier League title back to Old Trafford by 2028.

It has now been 13 years since Manchester United last won the Premier League in 2013 under Sir Alex Ferguson, but Ineos are eager to end the wait.

CEO Omar Berrada laid out Ineos’ Project 150 which is a plan to win the Premier League by 2028 – United’s 150th anniversary.

United chiefs want Bruno Fernandes to lift the Premier League as an integral part of the project. The resurgence under Michael Carrick this season suggests the Red Devils are not as far away from challenging as many thought.

Here’s how the line-up could look in 2028 when United are making a charge to the title…

Can Manchester United be Premier League champions in the next few years?🏆

Goalkeeper

Senne Lammens

Perhaps Ineos’ best signing is goalkeeper Senne Lammens, who has been sensational in his debut season in 2025/26.

The Belgian shot-stopper is only 23 years old, so he will be approaching his prime in 2028. Lammens has what it takes to be United’s goalkeeper for the next decade, so expect him to be part of a title charge.

Radek Vitek will likely be the back-up option if he stays at Old Trafford after impressing out on loan at Bristol City this season.

Defenders

Jon Aramburu

In 2025, United were monitoring Jon Aramburu, who is viewed as a promising young talent at Real Sociedad.

The 23-year-old Venezuela international is already attracting interest from around Europe, including Inter Milan, and he would be ideal for the Premier League because of his speed and physique.

If Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are not long-term options at United, then Aramburu could be a potential signing at Old Trafford over the coming years.

Matthijs de Ligt

In the first half of the season, Matthijs de Ligt was United’s best player before his campaign was derailed by injury.

But the Dutch defender is still only 26 years old. By 2028, he will be 28 and in his prime. Provided he stays fit, expect De Ligt to still be in the heart of defence.

Lisandro Martinez

The long-term plan will be for Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro to take charge of United’s defence, but both young defenders are still learning their trade.

Lisandro Martinez improves United’s XI drastically when fit, and his World Cup-winning experience is priceless. His technical ability and passing range offer something no other defender at the club has.

Lewis Hall

Luke Shaw has had a strong 2025/26, but he will be 32 years old in 2028 and United are already in the market for a long-term replacement.

United have been linked with Lewis Hall following his impressive form at Newcastle United. The England star would fit perfectly in at left-back for United.

Midfielders

Sandro Tonali

United are interested in Sandro Tonali as a long-term replacement for Casemiro, and the Italy international is a good fit to be Kobbie Mainoo’s partner.

In 2028, Tonali will be 27 years old and could have a couple years of experience at Old Trafford under his belt.

How do you really feel about Man United’s Sandro Tonali interest?

Is he who we need in midfield?🇮🇹

Kobbie Mainoo

Playing alongside Tonali in midfield is Carrington graduate Kobbie Mainoo, who has enjoyed a renaissance under Carrick this season.

At 20 years old, Mainoo already has plenty of experience in big games for both United and England. In 2028 he will be 22 years old and ready to lead United’s midfield on a title charge.

Bruno Fernandes

Ineos want Fernandes to stay and be part of their Project 150, so expect the Portuguese playmaker to be captaining the side in 2028.

Fernandes wants to win a Premier League title and he deserves it for his service since joining in 2020.

Fernandes will be 33 years old and likely the most experienced player in the squad.

Forwards

Bryan Mbeumo

United’s top scorer in 2025/26 is Bryan Mbeumo after an exceptional debut season. He has played his best matches off the right, and that is where you can expect him to play in 2028.

Amad Diallo will be pushing Mbeumo for a starting position, but he might have to accept a substitute role for the title charge.

Benjamin Sesko

Benjamin Sesko has huge potential, and he is starting to show it at United in his debut season, especially since the turn of the year.

Sesko has an elite mentality, and coaches have spoken frequently about his hunger and desire to improve and learn. By 2028, he will be 24 years old and ready to spearhead the attack.

JJ Gabriel

JJ Gabriel is United’s most promising academy star at Carrington, and a first-team breakthrough feels inevitable.

In 2028, Gabriel will still only be turning 18 years old, but he will surely be knocking on the door for a starting spot.

I’m backing Gabriel to be competing with Matheus Cunha for a starting spot on the left of the attack.
