Liverpool are believed to be among a host of Premier League clubs who are interested in signing Crystal Palace centre-back Maxence Lacroix this summer.
The Reds’ defensive woes have been well-publicised this season, with Virgil van Dijk recently struggling to explain the team’s issues as a whole, saying:
“Listen, I don’t know what to say – I said over the last months the same thing. We can’t build on a good performance. That is something that has to change if we are to achieve what we are trying to achieve, and that is Champions League football.
“We are trying everything. We are trying to turn it around and we are hopefully going to turn a corner, but it doesn’t look that way at the moment. Obviously we go away now to our different countries. Everyone has a responsibility to stay as fit as everyone can and come back ever better if that is possible.”
A new centre-back on top of Jeremy Jacquet is a must for Liverpool in the summer transfer window, and TEAMtalk‘s Graeme Bailey now reports that Liverpool are “monitoring” Palace ace Lacroix, with Chelsea and Aston Villa also in the mix.
But it is stated that the 25-year-old “does not have a release clause in his current deal, giving the club greater control over his future amid increasing interest.”
Could Maxence Lacroix be an ideal addition for Liverpool?
Lacroix is such an impressive centre-back, being hailed as “superb” by journalist Henry Swain in the past, so it makes plenty of sense for Liverpool to make a move for him in the summer.
He made his debut for France in their 2-1 win against Brazil last Friday, suggesting he may make Les Bleus‘ 2026 World Cup squad alongside Ibrahima Konate.
Liverpool know firsthand what a tough opponents Lacroix is, with the Palace defender tasting victory against them three times this season, in the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Premier League.
Interest in him is likely to big in the coming months, but he is at the right age to come in and bolster the Reds’ centre-back options, regardless of Konate’s future, having averaged 3.3 aerial duel wins in the Premier League this season.
