Former Celtic star fighting ex Everton boss in next Tottenham manager race as Spurs enter…

The former Celtic, Tottenham and Leeds United striker has also been mentioned with the Parkhead vacancy.

A former Celtic striker is fighting with an ex Everton head coach and a host of familiar Premier League bosses of the past to become the next Tottenham manager.

Igor Tudor’s interim reign that was supposed to last until the end of the season has already ended after 43 days and Spurs are perilously close to an unthinkable relegation out the Premier League. They have seven games left to save themselves and top flight experience of some kind in England’s top flight is being sought.

Ex-Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi is a popular option, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, but there are doubts over whether he’d take it now. Plenty more are fighting it out on the shortlist, including former Celtic man Robbie Keane and ex Everton manager Sean Dyche.

Who will be the next manager of Tottenham?

Keane has not got Premier League managerial experience but is a hero at Spurs after time there as a player. He featured on loan at Celtic at the back end of his impressive playing career and has been linked to the upcoming vacancy in Glasgow, with Martin O’Neill only in charge until the end of the season, having impressed as Ferencvaros manager in Hungary.

It’s claimed he could be an option Tottenham turn to but the likes of Dyche with experience at Burnley and Everton hold the gaffer experience in the UK that Keane lacks. Others on the shortlist include Crook states: “Tottenham sources have told talkSPORT efforts have been made this week to try and get De Zerbi in before the season ends.

“As previously reported he wants to wait until the summer. Interim options include Sean Dyche (complicated), Adi Hutter, Ryan Mason, Chris Hughton and Robbie Keane.”

What is Robbie Keane’s managerial future?

Speaking earlier this month as whispers of Tottenham and Celtic grew around Keane, Ferencvaros CEO Pal Orosz made an admission on where the ex-striker’s future was likely to sit. He said: "He had a good impact on Fradi, as we can see. A true Irishman, hard-headed, but at the same time a very good figure. He can win and motivate a lot, the players believe in him and that's the most important thing.

“A real leader. If he really was mentioned with Tottenham, then we are proud, because we made the right choice. And he also wanted to come here, and that's why he left his mark here. We are living in a good time and he, his staff and Tamás Hajnal are great trustees of this. We have had a good transfer season. We have consciously chosen players, the end result of continuous monitoring is that someone comes here. We cannot justify a perfect transfer season, even bigger clubs like us cannot do that. Fradi is a special environment, here you are constantly in the spotlight, you have to perform, there is no patience here, you are under pressure, there is always a pressure to win.

“There are realities, of course, but obviously we went to El with the intention of winning, there can be no other goal for a Fradi. There are those who come here and are pressured by all this. Those who are good elsewhere, in some cases, need less time here, more time to dissolve and be able to bring themselves, the quality that brought them here. This has happened before, and it will continue to be like this.
