Wolves boss Rob Edwards believes Pedro Lima can have an impact in English football but says the young defender will need time to develop.

The 19-year-old left his native Brazil in July 2024 to sign in a deal worth around £8.4million, before making six senior appearances in his first season.

Lima was sent on loan to Porto last summer and played for their B team, but did not feature for the senior side, before returning to Wolves in January.

He has played four times under Edwards so far and the head coach has faith in the talented defender.

"I don't see why not, there's nothing that's saying to me at the moment that he can't,” Edwards said when asked if Lima can make it in English football.

"But he might need more time. We'll see on how he develops and how quickly he develops as well.

"I don't see a reason that's making me think he's never going to be able to do it at all.

"He's got two of the big things at the moment, athleticism and ability. Then understanding and all those other things as well will come with time.

"He's ticking some boxes at the moment.”

Wolves were considering sending Lima out on loan again in January, with Championship clubs interested, but after Edwards brought him on as a late substitute against Everton in early January, the rules stated he could not play for another side this season.

"He's very young and developing,” Edwards added.

"I think he's got some really good skills. That's why he's come on in a couple of games late where we've needed a bit of a width and a cross. He's got a really good crossing ability, it's his super strength.

"There's some technical quality there. He's still got lots to learn because he's a young player, but he's getting a lot of individual work as well with the guys.

"If some of the other right-backs and wing-backs are doing some work, he's part of that as well.

"He'll be taking a lot on board at the moment, getting used to England and what the demands are here.

"But he's certainly someone who athletically is very good and technically gifted as well.

"He just has things to learn in-game, which is normal for any 19-year-old.

"They're going to make mistakes, they've got lots to learn, but it's really exciting as well when we've got some good young players in the building.

"It's great that they're getting some of these experiences now as well because it's only going to benefit them going forward.”
