'Nobody will remember': Mohamed Salah warned why he could quickly be forgotten once he leaves Liverpool

Mohamed Salah has been told to choose his next club carefully or risk being forgotten about after his Liverpool exit this summer.

Salah will bring the curtain down on a sensational nine years at Anfield this June, with all eyes on what the Egyptian decides to do next.

Given his age and the wages he would likely demand, Salah will not have too many options, but moves to Saudi Arabia or America have both been mooted. According to Egyptian national team director Ibrahim Hassan, however, the Liverpool legend should do everything possible to avoid MLS.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Salah told to avoid MLS transfer

For what he has done at Liverpool – and in the Premier League more widely – Salah has ensured he will leave a legacy which will ring through the generations.

According to Hassan, though, the 33-year-old will be completely forgotten in the here and now if he decides to make America his next stop.

“Personally, I’d prefer him to stay in Europe,” he told On Sports via Mundo Deportivo. “I’ve heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and clubs in the Italian league.”

“A move to Major League Soccer? He’d be too far from the spotlight. Nobody will remember Salah anymore, just like I don’t remember [Lionel] Messi; I don’t even try to watch him play.

“If he doesn’t receive offers from Europe, a move to the Saudi league would be a good option, especially with big names like Cristiano Ronaldo.”

It is interesting, but fairly obvious, that Hassan places greater emphasis on Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia than Messi in the US. The reality is that Salah will fall out of the general footballing consciousness whether he chooses to join either league this summer.

From a sporting point of view, a stay in Europe would clearly be the ideal solution for the Liverpool icon, Hassan is right about that. However, with Salah likely pricing himself out of such a move, he will probably have to choose between two divisions of much lower quality.
