A round-up of the action from the weekend’s Women’s football.
Aston Villa conceded a heartbreaking late goal to come off on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller against Chelsea in the WSL.
Villa came from 3-1 down to draw level at the break and looked on course to further dent Chelsea’s top-three hopes.
Chasity Grant gave Villa an early lead and after Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, Naomi Girma and Lauren James scored in the space of seven minutes, Kirsty Hanson’s quickfire double left the scores level at half-time.
However, Sjoeke Nusken proved to be the hero for Chelsea as she struck with eight minutes remaining to lift the Blues back above Manchester United and Arsenal, still nine points behind leaders Manchester City, while Villa sit in ninth.
In the WSL2, Birmingham City earned a hard-fought three points against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Wilma Leidhammar’s second-half strike was the difference between the two sides, as Blues closed the gap at the top of the table.
They sit three points behind leaders Charlton, but with a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
In National League Northern Premier Division, bottom side Sporting Khalsa were on course for an important win before a late collapse against Rugby Borough.
Khalsa took the lead three minutes before half-time and held on to their advantage until the 85th minute, when Rugby equalised.
A tough situation descended into a disaster shortly after, when Rugby netted a winner in the 90th minute.
In the National League Division One Midlands, Kidderminster Harriers were comfortably beaten 5-1 at home to Boldmere St Michaels.
Meanwhile, Stourbridge picked up a point in a 1-1 draw against Northampton Town, but they remain in the relegation zone.
In the West Midlands League Premier Division, Lye Town remain top of the table after a 6-1 win at Burton Albion.
Captain Tasha Baptiste continued her remarkable form, taking her tally to 14 goals in the last seven games, with a hat-trick against Burton.
A brace from Brit Lote and a finish from Chloe Whyley rounded off the victory.
Hednesford Town were in League Cup action and secured a 2-0 quarter-final win over Rugby Town.
In the West Midlands League Division One North, Lichfield City are flying high at the top of the table after a 6-2 win over AFC Telford United.
Walsall also tasted victory, winning 3-0 at home to Whitchurch Alport.
In the West Midlands League Division One South, Halesowen Town put in a five star performance with a 5-0 win over bottom side Kingfisher FC.
