Ryan Babel picks his dream five-a-side team with only two former Liverpool teammates making the cut

Ryan Babel has overlooked plenty of his former Liverpool teammates while naming his dream five-a-side team.

The Dutchman returned to Anfield on Saturday as he featured in the Liverpool Legends charity match against Borussia Dortmund, showing his quality with a perfectly weighted assist for Thiago Alcantara.

Many of Babel‘s old colleagues also played in the game, but while speaking to Saudi outlet Koora over the weekend, the 39-year-old claimed that only Steven Gerrard and Daniel Agger would get into his squad of career teammates.

You can only pick ONE player for Liverpool to sign this summer, who is it?

Babel names Gerrard and Agger in dream team

After a long and varied career, Babel has had hundreds of teammates over the years, which made his five-a-side team visibly difficult to select.

Nevertheless, he ultimately settled on the five, with only Gerrard and Agger making the cut from Liverpool.

“I think Edwin van der Sar for sure,” Babel said. “For me a keeper should be very good with the feet, I think he was one of the best keepers I played with who was good with the feet.”

“I would put on the right side [of the attack] Steven Gerrard, left side I would go Arjen Robben. Striker I could say many strikers, I could say Ruud van Nistelrooy, I could say Van Persie. I’m a big admirer of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, I think very underrated.

“But you could also put Fernando Torres there of course, it’s too many to choose from I guess! Let’s put Van Persie in the striker.

“Then defence, I would go for a defender like Daniel Agger.”

The likes of Torres, Xabi Alonso and Pepe Reina may feel aggrieved at Babel’s choices, but this would still be an exceptional team to face out on the five-a-side pitches.
