Manchester United are still planning to go all-out to sign Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson above any other midfield options, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils are planning a major overhaul of their midfield this season and have been linked to a host of names, with INEOS expected to put big money towards shaping the squad in their image, while replacing Casemiro, and also planning for the potential exit of Manuel Ugarte.
But despite reports in recent days that Sandro Tonali has emerged as the main man, with the club set to make a formal offer when the season comes to an end, it has now emerged that he is not the first-choice option for the position.
Man Utd Want Anderson Above Other Options
Elliot Anderson
Anderson, who has been described as 'one of the world's leading players', has been earmarked as the top target at Old Trafford, with INEOS chiefs ready to form their entire transfer strategy for the window around bringing him into the club.
Currently, it's believed that Man City are leading the race for the England international, with Anderson believed to prefer a move to the Etihad. But the 23-year-old is seen as the ideal target by Man Utd chiefs, and there are suggestions that City may not make a move for him unless Rodri pushes to leave, rather than seeing out the final year of his contract.
Anderson's performances this season have seen him emerge as a regular starter for England under Thomas Tuchel, and Nottingham Forest have slapped an asking price of at least £80m to ensure they claim maximum value if they lose their star man.
United have not been put off by the asking price, and while the club are also working on other deals alongside it, he is the top target. They also are keen to sign two midfielders this summer, and prefer Premier League-proven players.
Man Utd Should Move for Both
sandro tonali
With a major overhaul in midfield needed, there is suggestions that the club are ready to spend big money on the position this summer. If that's the case, then signing both Anderson and Tonali would be ideal.
Both players are Premier League-proven, both have a great engine, and they offer great attributes that would compliment each other, and Kobbie Mainoo, well.
GIVEMESPORT asked ChatGPT which two midfielders Man Utd should sign this summer, and this was its response:
Bruno Guimarães + Adam Wharton
Elite balance: Guimarães = complete, high-output leader
Wharton = progressive passer, tempo controller
Perfect mix of control + creativity alongside Mainoo
Alternative: Sandro Tonali + Carlos Baleba
Tonali = off-ball engine + structure
Baleba = ball-winning power
Higher risk, lower creativity ceiling
