The latest transfer talk from Sunderland as the Black Cats prepare for the summer transfer window.
Regis Le Bris’ side have been one of the stories of the Premier League this season after a highly ambitious summer transfer window laid the foundations for what has been a stunning return to the top flight. Qualifying for European competition for only the second time in their history is not out of the equation for Sunderland during the final weeks of the season - but no matter what comes to pass between now and the end of the campaign, another exciting summer lies in wait.
There has been a major update on Sunderland’s reported interest in Osasuna star Victor Munoz after Spanish news outlet El Pais reported the Black Cats were unsuccessful with an initial €25m offer for the winger during the January transfer window and claimed the Real Madrid academy graduate opted to reject the move to Wearside. The 22-year-old’s stock has risen significantly in recent weeks after he received a maiden call-up to the senior Spain squad and he marked his debut with a goal in a friendly win against Serbia on Friday. He will hope to impress head coach Luis de la Fuente once again when the reigning European champions face Egypt on Tuesday night and that could put him in line to be named in the Spain squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in North America as La Roja look to become world champions for the first time since 2010.
There is an added complicating factor for Sunderland or any other possible suitor looking to move for Munoz as Real Madrid reportedly have a ‘50% resale clause’ added into the deal that took the winger to La Liga rivals Osasuna last summer. The report also claims Sunderland are one of a number of clubs across Europe to have shown an interest in Munoz - but also states he will only leave Osasuna if a release clause worth €40m is met.
