Egypt's national team director has warned Mohamed Salah against joining a Major League Soccer side. The 33-year-old is set to leave Liverpool at the end of this season.

Salah has spent nine years leading the line for the Reds, helping his side taste Premier League glory twice as well as win the Champions League. But he will bid farewell to Anfield once this campaign ends as he sets his sights on the next chapter.

Where Salah will next play football is currently unknown. Saudi Pro League clubs are rumoured to be in the race, with Al-Ittihad having reportedly bid for him in the past. Another European side could also be in the question.

However, the MLS, another mooted destination, is somewhere Salah should snub if the opportunity arises. That's according to Egypt's director, Ibrahim Hassan, who also revealed two clubs he has heard are interested.

"Personally, I'd prefer he stay in Europe," Hassan told On Sport. "I've heard about offers from Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and clubs in the Italian league.

"A move to Major League Soccer? He would be too far from the spotlight. Salah wouldn't be remembered, just as I no longer remember [Lionel] Messi today; I don't even try to watch him.

"If he doesn't receive any offers from Europe, then a move to the Saudi league would also be a good option, especially with big names such as Cristiano [Ronaldo] there."

Salah announced his impending Reds departure last week with an emotional video uploaded to social media. It began: "Hello everyone. Unfortunately, the day has come. This is the first part of my farewell: I will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

"I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people, would become part of my life. Liverpool, it's not just a football club. It's a passion. It's a history. It's a spirit.

"I can't explain in words to anyone not part of this club. We celebrated victory. We won the most important trophies. And we fought together through the hardest time in our life. I want to thank everyone who was part of this club throughout my time here, especially the team-mates, past and present. And to the fans: I don't have enough words.

"The support you showed me through the best time of my career and you stood by me in the toughest times. It's something I will never forget, and something I will take with me always.

"Leaving is never easy. You gave me the best time of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, to me and to my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone."
