First win of the second half of the season

**Young She-Wolves claim a 2-1 victory in Warbeyen.**

The losing streak is over: On matchday 21 of the 2. Frauen-Bundesliga, the VfL Wolfsburg second women celebrated their first win of the second half of the season. On Sunday, the Green-and-Whites secured a 2-1 (1-1) victory away at VfR SW Warbeyen. The Young She-Wolves remain in 13th place in the table but have reduced the gap to 12th-placed Potsdam to two points. To avoid relegation, Wolfsburg need to finish at least 11th, a position currently held by Eintracht Frankfurt II, who are four points ahead of the Green-and-Whites.

Taking the lead after going behind

----------------------------------

The opening phase belonged to the Green-and-Whites. As early as the fifth minute, the Young She-Wolves had a clear chance: Lynn Kupetz broke through on the left and squared the ball to Celine Schenk, who, from close range, sent her effort just wide of the goal. The Lower Saxony side were also unable to convert opportunities from corners and a free-kick. The hosts were far more efficient, capitalising on a misplaced pass to launch a counterattack, which Greta Oerding finished to make it 1-0 (28’). The Green-and-Whites responded immediately to the setback: after winning the ball in the opposition half, Schenk played a pass to Kupetz, who calmly slotted home into the bottom-left corner (34’). The sides went into the break level at 1-1. Shortly after the restart, the Young She-Wolves struck again: Rosaline Andersen fired from around 20 metres to give her team a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute.

“Everyone fought until the end”

-------------------------------

In the remaining time, Warbeyen created several chances and repeatedly threatened the Wolfsburg goal. VfL goalkeeper Christina Schönwetter preserved the narrow lead with a number of strong saves. The match therefore ended in a 2-1 away victory. With Kupetz, Schenk and Rosaline Andersen, three players featured for the Young She-Wolves who are still eligible to play for the U17 side. “The fact that two U17 players scored the goals or were involved in them overall shows the quality in the younger age groups,” said interim head coach Andreas Arr-You, who also had plenty of praise for his team overall: “We conceded the goal in an unfortunate way but responded quickly. The entire team deserves credit – both for their compactness and their performance. Everyone fought until the end.”
