Newcastle United will hope to welcome back the majority of the seven players currently on their injury list, while some have also withdrawn from their international squad early. Eddie Howe’s side have been suffering with a growing list over the last few weeks and months.

It seems to be easing now. Newcastle are not back in action until April 12, when they host Crystal Palace at St James’ Park.

That extra week gives players time to step up their recovery and hopefully be available for the game. Newcastle will be looking to bounce back from the disappointment of their defeat against Sunderland in their last outing.

That result, along with the club’s current position of 12th in the Premier League table has put some pressure on Howe, with some questions asked over his future.

The current international break has given the club a couple of updates on members of their squad. Although the Magpies have also been handed a big injury blow.

Here’s a closer look at the injury list and those who have withdrawn from their international squad as it stands.

Sven Botman

The club have confirmed that the defender will be out of action until the ‘closing weeks’ of the season after suffering a facial fracture in the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

Botman was forced off the field with the injury and has since undergone surgery. A Newcastle statement read: "Newcastle United defender Sven Botman has undergone successful surgery on a facial fracture.

"Following concussion protocol, the Dutchman was substituted after suffering the injury during the second half of Sunday's game against Sunderland at St. James' Park.

"Sven is not expected to be sidelined for an extended period and hopes to be available again during the closing weeks of the season.

"Everybody at the club wishes Sven a swift recovery."

Possible return date: Vs Brighton (H) - 2 May.

Bruno Guimaraes

The midfielder has left isolation after suffering from mumps. The illness has forced him to stay away from the squad to avoid passing it on to his teammates.

It setback occurred while the Brazilian had been recovering from a hamstring injury. He was stepping up his comeback by travelling with the squad for the Champions League clash against Barcelona, but it was on his way back from Spain where he started to feel ill.

Possible return date: Vs Crystal Palace (H) - 12 April.

Sandro Tonali

Tonali missed the derby against Sunderland due to concerns over his hip. But in good news for Newcastle, he was able to play and score in Italy’s World Cup play-off semi-final win against Northern Ireland after being assessed by the national team doctors.

He is now expected to feature in this week’s final against Bosnia and Herzegovina for a place at this summer’s World Cup.

Lewis Miley

The 19-year-old has missed the last 13 games in all competitions with a dead leg, and was therefore not included in the England U21 squad for the current international break.

Ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby, Eddie Howe confirmed that he expects Miley to be back in contention after the break.

Fabian Schar

Schar last played for Newcastle during the 4-3 win over Newcastle at St James Park. But that match saw him pick up an injury that required surgery.

It seems he is now stepping up his rehabilitation, and the club are hopeful of his availability for the clash against Palace after the international break.

Emil Krafth

It’s expected that Krafth’s season has ended prematurely, with the defender undergoing an operation on his knee.

He suffered the injury while he was on international duty, but upon his return to training, he wasn’t able to reach the level needed, meaning that the surgery option was taken.

Possible return date: Unknown

Aaron Ramsdale

The goalkeeper on loan from Southampton is one of eight players to leave the England squad early ahead of the international friendly with Japan. Thomas Tuchel had confirmed that some of the 35 players called up would only take part in one of the two matches over the break.

With Ramsdale being one of those, he’s been allowed to return early, following the 1-1 draw with Uruguay on Friday.

There is no known injury worry, meaning he should be available for the Premier League clash against Palace.
