Liverpool want to sign Luis Suarez and are prepared to go head-to-head with Newcastle in a transfer war, according to a report.
The Reds shelled out almost half a billion last summer, with close to £200m of that spent on British transfer record signing Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike. However, Liverpool reportedly want to further bolster their attacking options in the summer.
Isak has missed the second half of the season after being unfit and out of form at the beginning of the campaign, leaving Ekitike to bear the pressure of leading Liverpool’s frontline in his first season in England.

But the Reds may look to sign Sporting striker Luis Suarez after the 28-year-old has proved to be a more than capable replacement for Viktor Gyokeres in the Portuguese capital.
The Sporting forward, not to be confused with the former Liverpool and Uruguay striker who shares the same name, is experiencing the campaign of his career since his switch from Almeria last summer.
Suarez has netted 33 goals and provided seven assists in just 42 matches to establish himself as one of Europe's most sought-after forwards.

Portuguese publication Correio da Manha claims Liverpool and Newcastle are showing 'intense interest' in Suarez, who remains tied to the Lisbon outfit until 2030 and carries a release clause of approximately £70million.
There's reportedly a widespread belief at the club that it's merely a question of when Suarez will follow in the footsteps of the man he succeeded by making the switch to the Premier League.
While the Reds might be hesitant to splash out £70million on a player approaching his thirties, there are indications Sporting could entertain an offer nearer to £50million. That being said, if Arsenal's relentless chase of Gyokeres serves as any indication, anticipate Sporting to drive a hard bargain.

Sporting frustrated Arsenal’s bid to sign Gyokeres and the Swedish striker even went on strike in a bid to force their hand.
Suarez is proving to be a late bloomer after his form exploded over the last 18 months. Sporting took a punt on the former Watford man after he scored 27 goals in the Spanish second tier last year – only the third time in his career he scored double figures in a season before this current campaign – and all three of those seasons were outside of the top flight in Spain.
Last summer, Liverpool took on Newcastle in the striker market, signing Isak and signing Ekitike from under their nose. The Magpies opted to sign Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa instead, but both have failed to find their best form.
