Mohamed Salah back for Liverpool

Liverpool have been dealing with a number of injury concerns this season, with fresh issues emerging before and during the international break.

The Reds headed into the two-week pause on the back of a 2-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton, leaving their hopes of a top-four finish under pressure.

A Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain is on the horizon, and Liverpool will be hoping several key players return in time. Arne Slot will also be monitoring those on international duty, wary of any additional injury setbacks.

Mohamed Salah was already sidelined before the break after picking up an injury in the win over Galatasaray. The forward, who has confirmed he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, missed the defeat to Brighton and did not feature for Egypt during the international window.

“Unusual [he is injured], I think you expect the outcome so he is not available for tomorrow [vs Brighton],” Slot said before the international break. “Good thing for Liverpool is we go to international break, bad news for Egypt, he can’t go there. We hope with what Mo has shown in the past he can recover faster than other players.

“He takes such good care of his body, he can be back earlier than others as history has shown. Only two weeks until we go again.”

According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, Mohamed Salah is expected to be fit to feature for Liverpool in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City. City scored twice late at Anfield to secure a 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool last month.

Dominik Szoboszlai had given the Reds hope with a stunning 74th-minute free kick, only for Bernardo Silva and an Erling Haaland penalty to snatch victory for the visitors.

Rayan Cherki appeared to have added a third for City deep into stoppage time with a clever run from the halfway line, but the effort led to a chase involving Szoboszlai and Haaland, resulting in a red card for the Hungarian.

Salah has netted 10 goals and provided nine assists for Liverpool this season. The forward has yet to announce his next destination with several clubs in the Saudi Pro League interested in signing him.
