Raphinha may have left Leeds United in 2022, but his latest hamstring injury could have a major impact on his former club with £10million on the line.

The Brazilian has had an exceptional career since leaving the Whites for Barcelona, finishing fifth in the most recent Ballon d’Or awards.

The 29-year-old has won two La Liga titles and two Copa del Reys as well as three Spanish Supercups.

Overall, it is safe to say his transfer to the Nou Camp has been successful for the former Whites attacker.

However, one of the trophies he has yet to win, the Champions League, could end up boosting Leeds’ finances if he can finally get his hands on it, with his injury blow dampening those chances.

How Raphinha’s injury affects Leeds United

When Leeds sold the Brazilian winger to the Blaugrana, the Whites included multiple clauses in the deal.

One of which means Leeds will receive £10m if Barcelona wins the Champions League with Raphinha.

However, the 29-year-old is now set to be out for five weeks; the Barcelona talisman will not be able to feature in both quarter-final legs against Atletico Madrid.

This season, the Madrid-based club has already knocked the Catalan side out of one competition, the Copa del Rey. A two-legged tie in which the former Leeds attacker scored.

Without Raphinha available, Barcelona will certainly have a tougher job on their hands.

Officials at Elland Road will no doubt be keeping a close eye on how the La Liga club get on in their European endeavours, as it could mean extra money towards the transfer budget next season.

How big a blow is Raphinha’s injury for Barcelona?

Raphinha loves to play against Atletico Madrid, with the winger only losing twice out of 10 times of asking against the Red-and-Whites.

Additionally, he has netted two goals and provided six assists in those 10 appearances against them.

So, it is certainly a major blow for Barcelona. However, they do still have plenty of quality in their squad to get the job done and provide a boost for Leeds.

If Raphinha’s side can get the job done without him, his injury timeline means he will be recovered in time for the semi-finals.

Four years after leaving, the Brazilian may yet come up trumps for the Elland Road faithful.
