Dutch boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed that West Ham winger Cresencio Summerville would have been called up to the Netherlands squad for the current international games. Summerville had been in scintillating form for West Ham up until the point he got injured and, as a result, subsequently missed the draw against Manchester City and the loss to Aston Villa.
The £25 million signing from Leeds United has been revitalised under the guidance of Hammers manager Nuno Espírito Santo and was looking forward to his first senior cap. Unfortunately, he was denied on this occasion, but if he was looking for encouragement, he certainly found that with the Dutch manager Koeman.
Koeman hands Summerville major international backing
“He remains a serious option for the World Cup,” said Koeman, whose team beat Norway 2-1 on Friday. West Ham will be hoping Summerville returns for the FA Cup tie against his former team. That said, the Premier League game against Wolves the following week is a huge priority and a ‘must-win’ game.
Claret & Hugh were informed last week that Summerville will be fit to face Rob Edwards team and could even be eyeing the FA Cup match against his former team Leeds.
