**West Ham United are rumoured to be in for AC Milan’s left-wing-back, who scored the winner in the Milan derby earlier this month.**
This sounds exciting, right? Well it isn’t as exciting as signing AC Milan’s left-back would have sounded previously.
Milan’s left sided defender is currently former Brighton player Pervis Estupinan, not a bad player at all, but maybe not as cool as the headline makes it sound.
Would the Ecuadorian International be a good signing for the Hammers? In terms of quality of player he’s more than good enough to be a starter in the Premier League, he was absolutely incredible at times for the Seagulls.
However, we really don’t need a left-back, we have El Hadji Malick Diouf and Ollie Scarles, they are more than good enough for the position, and have a lot of time to improve.
Obviously if we go down, Diouf will more than likely leave and we will need a left/back, but Estupinan will be well out of our reach and price range then.
Maybe there is a chance Diouf will leave, even if we stay up, however, it would take at least £45-50m and I can’t see a team paying that.
If they did, there would certainly be worse options than the 28-year-old. He can play both left-back and left-wing-back, has Premier League experience, is creative and isn’t a bad defender.
It would just be disappointing to go from someone young and promising like Diouf, with years ahead of him to someone that may be past his best in the Premier League.
