Comeback victory vs Crewe shows 'character' of Cherries side - goalscorer Day

Day scored the winner in the 88th minute to complete a 3-2 victory at Dean Court, after they had gone 1-0 and then 2-1 down to their visitors.

The forward said the comeback ‘summed up the character of the group’.

“Obviously a tough game against a dogged team,” he told the Daily Echo.

“A northern team's normally like that, so getting the three points is massive at this stage of the season, and in our careers it will come even bigger.

“So sticking together, it wasn't the best game that we played in our time, but technically and tactically we could be better.

“But I think just getting across the line, getting the three points is all that matters at the end of the day.”

While he and his Cherries teammates were disappointed to concede what he described as “poor” goals, Day said the victory and the three points was the key in a busy part of the season.

“It's tough at the moment,” he said.

“We've got a lot of games, but that's what it's going to be like later in our career, maybe Saturday, Tuesday. So just trying to recover well and getting back fit.

“And then obviously thanks to the crowd for coming out today. I think they just gave us a massive boost of energy, it’s what we needed.

“When we scored, we just had had that boost. So yeah, I think they helped massively and obviously good to get the win.”

The Cherries now have four consecutive away games to round out their Professional Development League season, before the playoffs, should they qualify.

They are in a good position to do so, but Day and the Cherries have a higher aim: “Obviously it's still on to win the league, so that's our main hope, but top eight gets playoffs, so we definitely want to end the season with some tough games and hopefully bring home some silverware.”
