It looks set to be a busy summer transfer window for Newcastle United and Eddie Howe. After a disappointing campaign, the Magpies will want to end the season strongly and try to qualify for European football next season.

That'll have a major say in Newcastle's summer transfer business, regarding both incoming and outgoing transfers. Several of the Toon's key players have been linked with a move away from St. James' Park.

Howe has already rebuffed any transfer speculation relating to club captain Bruno Guimaraes, while the likes of Sandro Tonali, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall have all been linked with moves away.

However, Newcastle are expected to be active themselves with new sporting director Ross Wilson set to implement his ideas in his first summer in charge.

With that in mind, Chronicle Live has taken a look at the latest transfer news and speculation during the international break.

Sandro Tonali 'open to Manchester United move'

Fabrizio Romano claims Sandro Tonali would be open to a move to Manchester United this summer, with the Red Devils in line for a return to Champions League football under Michael Carrick. He claims Premier League duo Manchester City and Arsenal are both monitoring Tonali's situation. The Italian was reportedly offered to the Gunners in the January transfer window.

Romano claimed: "One of the names very high on their shortlist is Sandro Tonali. Tonali has been excellent recently, scoring for Italy against Northern Ireland and performing very well for Newcastle United. Newcastle also expect potential movement around him this summer.

"It is important to note that Manchester United have already made contact with Tonali’s camp to be informed about his situation. There is still no agreement, no negotiation stage yet, but the interest is real and consistent.

"Tonali appreciates the idea of returning to a bigger European stage if all parties align, so this one will be worth keeping an eye on. There is also interest from Arsenal, confirmed, but again nothing advanced there either. For Italian clubs, including Juventus, the deal would be financially almost impossible."

Chronicle Live says: "With every passing week, there's more and more speculation about the Italian international's future. It feels all too fresh for Magpies' supporters given Alexander Isak's departure last summer and Newcastle are keen to stress they've learned from that debacle.

"T he best chance of keeping Tonali, would be qualifying for the European football, with the club playing down any talk of a gentleman's agreement that would allow him to leave."

Newcastle eye '£52m man as Tonali replacement'

Calciomercato IT claim that French midfielder Kephren Thuram will be allowed to leave Juventus in the summer for a reported fee of €60m (£52m) if the Old Lady fails to qualify for the Champions League.

The report claims Man United and Liverpool are keeping a close eye on the former Nice star, while the Magpies are also mentioned as a possible destination.

The 25-year-old has been a key player at Juventus since his move to the Serie A.

Chronicle Live says: "Given reports linking Thuram with a move away from Juventus hinge on their qualification for the Champions League, it's difficult to see Newcastle being able to lure the French midfielder to Tyneside, given they themselves are also likely to be without Champions League football.

"Early indications ahead of the summer point to the Magpies looking to sign players from France, South America, Belgium and the Netherlands, given the cheaper transfer fees."
