Crystal Palace have sounded out 'fantastic' ex-Everton boss over replacing Glasner - report

Crystal Palace have been handed an update on their managerial search as the Eagles sound out a former Everton boss over replacing Oliver Glasner.

Palace set for pivotal summer with Glasner exit confirmed

Palace have navigated this season with a mixture of European adventure and domestic frustration, and the summer ahead may prove the most consequential in the club's history.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner

Glasner, who delivered the first major trophy in the Eagles' 120-year existence last May when Eberechi Eze's goal at Wembley beat Man City in the FA Cup final, also led them to an opening-day Community Shield triumph over Liverpool on penalties and a historic Conference League campaign that has already stretched to the quarter-finals.

The Austrian is, without question, the most successful manager Selhurst Park has ever seen.

He is also leaving.

Glasner confirmed in January that he had told chairman Steve Parish as far back as October that he would not be renewing his contract, citing a desire for a fresh challenge.

An "incredible" Palace player is attracting plenty of interest.

The announcement came with barely concealed tension about the direction of the club.

Eze was sold last summer to Arsenal, Marc Guehi was sold to Man City for just £20m in January — the day before a Premier League fixture — prompting Glasner's extraordinary public outburst in which he said he felt the club had been "abandoned completely."

The relationship between manager and board has been strained for months, and by summer's end, one side of that dynamic will be gone.

The challenge is that the other departures could be considerable too.

Adam Wharton, the 22-year-old England international who has become one of the division's most composed central midfielders, is understood to be seeking Champions League football and is firmly on Man United's radar as they look to reshape their midfield.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is also poised to leave this summer and came close to joining AC Milan in January.

The futures of Maxence Lacroix, Tyrick Mitchell and Ismaila Sarr are also unresolved, with interest reportedly circling in all three.

Palace are also no closer to appointing a new manager.

Reports do suggest they're compiling a shortlist though, with Ferencvaros boss Robbie Keane among the candidates to succeed Glasner at Palace.

As well as the ex-Spurs striker, Parish has his eyes on a pragmatic free agent.

Palace sound out Sean Dyche over manager's job

Indeed, SportsBoom claim that Sean Dyche has been sounded out about the vacancy.

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche looks on

The 54-year-old, available since his dismissal from Nottingham Forest in February, was heavily linked with a move to Spurs but hilariously downplayed Spurs talks after talking to someone about it in a pub, as he revealed on talkSPORT.

Some supporters will feel Dyche's direct, pragmatic style represents a step back from the fluid identity Glasner has built.

However, the tactician who Thomas Frank called a 'fantastic coach' also has his perks.

Dyche built his managerial reputation across a decade at Burnley, achieving promotion and delivering a remarkable seventh-place Premier League finish in 2018 — resulting in European qualification.

After leaving Turf Moor following a decade-long spell, he subsequently steadied a sinking Everton ship before a brief stint at Forest this season.

His strengths are well-documented — organisation, defensive solidity, man-management, and an unrivalled ability to squeeze value from modest resources.

The concern at Selhurst Park is stylistic.

Palace have spent years building a squad with genuine attacking flair, and Dyche's direct, combative approach risks dismantling that identity.

For a club that just won the FA Cup last year, some will feel he represents ambition going backwards.
