The Japanese winger did not start against Scotland on Saturday but came on after half-time. Japan were able to beat Scotland 1-0.
This season, Kaoru has made 20 Premier League appearances for The Seagulls, scoring twice and getting one assist.
Statistically, it has not been his best campaign. In the 2024/25 season, Mitoma scored ten goals, getting four assists.
However, injury issues have sidelined him.
Mitoma suffered an ankle injury in September 2025, which kept him out for over two months.
After that, minor issues have kept him from performing his best throughout the season.
However, his appearance during Albion's 2-1 win over Liverpool (Saturday, March 21) showcased his quality.
Before Mitoma left with Japan for the international break, Fabian Hurzeler had said: "We had an exchange with the Japanese medical department, so they know how much he trained in the last week.
“They know where he is at the moment.
“I hope it doesn't only count for Japan but for all the national teams, that they take care of our players because I think we give them in really good shape and hopefully they come back in good shape.
“Therefore, everyone has responsibility now."
If left-winger Mitoma features, he will likely face either Ben White, Tino Livramento, or Djed Spence at right back.
Interestingly, Kaoru Mitoma and Ben White never featured in the same matchday squad for Brighton.
Ben White left for Arsenal in July 2021, just before Mitoma officially joined in August 2021 and was immediately loaned out for the 2021/22 season, making his debut in August 2022.
The game kicks off at 7.45 pm and can be watched on ITV1. It will also be accessible to stream for free on TV or online with ITVX from 7pm.
