Liverpool are reportedly considering a summer move for Denzel Dumfries, with a surprisingly low release clause making the Inter Milan defender an attractive option.
The Reds are expected to address issues at right-back once the season concludes, and Dumfries has emerged as a serious candidate.
Injuries and inconsistency in that position have forced Liverpool to improvise at times, highlighting the need for a reliable long-term solution.
Since Trent Alexander-Arnold left the club for Real Madrid, the Reds have really struggled for consistency at right back.
According to L’Interista, Dumfries could be available for a relatively modest fee, with a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for around €25 million (£21.7m).

For a player of his experience and attacking output, that figure is viewed as a potential bargain in today’s market. Last season, the Dutchman scored 11 goals and provided six assists.
Liverpool’s interest in the Netherlands international is not new. They explored a possible deal earlier in the year but were unwilling to commit while the player was recovering from injury. Now that he is returning to full fitness, the situation appears to have changed, and a move is once again being considered.
One key factor working in Liverpool’s favour is the structure of the release clause itself.
It creates a straightforward pathway to signing the player without lengthy negotiations, provided the club is willing to meet the fixed fee.
However, they are unlikely to have a free run at the defender, with other top European sides also monitoring the situation.
Dumfries’ profile fits what Liverpool are currently lacking. Known for his energy, physicality, and ability to contribute in attack, he has consistently delivered both goals and assists from a defensive role.

That attacking threat could add a new dimension to Liverpool’s right flank, especially in a system that relies heavily on full-backs pushing forward.
There are, however, considerations beyond just the transfer fee. Dumfries is approaching 30, which does not align perfectly with Liverpool’s usual recruitment strategy focused on younger players with resale value.
Even so, the relatively low cost could make this a rare exception.
As the summer window approaches, the situation is one to watch closely. With a clear need in the squad and a favourable clause in place, Liverpool may feel this is an opportunity too good to ignore.
