Waldemar Anton

Manchester United and Aston Villa have Borussia Dortmund’s Waldemar Anton on their agenda for the summer.

The centre-back joined the Bundesliga side from VfB Stuttgart for €22.5m in July 2024 and has been a regular at the Signal Iduna Park.

Prior to his move to BVB, Atlético Madrid had shown interest. Back then, Sport Witness had relayed news that Liverpool wanted to bring him to Anfield.

The La Liga side have rekindled their desire to secure the defender’s services and now face competition from both Manchester United and Aston Villa, who are also keen.

Anton has played 79 matches for Borussia Dortmund, with 3,297 minutes from 37 matches this season.

His Bundesliga stats per game are as follows:

Clean sheets: 11

Interceptions: 0.7

Tackles: 2.1

Balls recovered: 5.0

Dribbled past: 0.4

Clearances: 5.3

Blocked shots: 0.5

Ground duels won: 3.0

Aerial duels won: 2.7

Contact from Manchester United and Aston Villa

Waldemar Anton’s performances for Borussia Dortmund have seen a handful of clubs look at him for the next window.

That’s according to Sky Deutschland, who say Manchester United, Aston Villa and Atlético Madrid are all keen.

Both the Red Devils and Diego Simeone’s side have made approaches to find out about his situation, while the Villans have also knocked on his door.

For Niko Kovač’s side, the Germany international is a ‘leader and a key player’, and the manager even praised him in February.

At that time, he said: “[Anton] works behind the scenes and tries to win many people over or get them on the right track. That’s leadership for me, putting your own ego aside and prioritising the team. Simply fantastic.”

He now earns €5-6m per year, which Manchester United and Unai Emery’s side should be able to match or beat. That figure could improve with a new contract, which Borussia Dortmund intend to offer.

Sebastian Kehl, who recently stepped down from his role as the sporting director, held talks with his agent. His successor, Ole Book, has to take over the renewal negotiations.

Meanwhile, Ruhr Nachrichten recently asked him about the possible departure in the summer.

Responding to that, Waldemar Anton explained: “Whether there are rumours or not, I don’t even notice them. To be honest, I’m not interested. It doesn’t matter if it’s about me or anyone else. There’s always a lot of speculation in football.

“A club like Borussia Dortmund wants to and should compete for titles. I’m very keen to do that.”

Waldemar Anton contract, value and agent info

Waldemar Anton will have two years left on his contract at the end of this season and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €18m. The highest was €24m in October 2024 and has been €18m since March 2025.

German agency AKA Global GmbH are managing the player’s interest and future.

Manchester United and Aston Villa may not have interest, but it feels like it’s been used to land an improved contract at Borussia Dortmund. Whether that’s really the case remains to be seen.
