'Isn't unsellable': Liverpool will have to pay over £85m to sign 'quality' attacker this summer - journalist

Yan Diomande remains a target for Liverpool despite RB Leipzig looking to offer the player fresh terms.

Diomande is among the potential replacements for Mohamed Salah, who is leaving at the end of the current season.

The teenager is shining in the Bundesliga and Leipzig do not want to lose him, slapping a price-tag in excess of £85m on his head to try and prevent that happening.

Which players should Liverpool target to replace Mohamed Salah this summer? 🤔

A seven-man shortlist has already been reported:

Desire Doue

Bradley Barcola

Nico Williams

Yan Diomande

Yan Diomande not ‘unsellable’ despite £85m-plus price-tag

Sky journalist Philipp Hinze shared an update via X/Twitter, in which he claimed that his current side are planning a ‘contract adjustment’.

Crucially, however, the journalist added that the Liverpool target, who has a price-tag of over €100m, is not unsellable.

He wrote: “Yan Diomande: Leipzig are planning a contract adjustment with a performance-based salary increase to reward his outstanding development.

“The deal would still have no release clause. Leipzig want to keep him another season, but the Ivorian isn’t unsellable – price tag from €100m and rising.”

When Yan Diomande’s price-tag could come down

While Diomande, who has been called ‘quality’, would set Liverpool or any other potential suitors back a large chunk of change at present, that fee could come down in the coming months.

RB Leipzig sit fourth in the Bundesliga table ahead of club football returning later this week.

But they are only above fifth via goal difference, and that could mean they end the season outside of Germany’s Champions League places, which, unlike the Premier League, is just the top four.

If that does happen, there have been reports that Diomande’s price tag will go down without top-tier European football.

Exactly how much it may drop has not been reported, but it could help Liverpool in their pursuit of the winger.

The player, though not reported, may also be more inclined to secure a move away from the Bundesliga outfit to a side that actually has Champions League football.

Whether Liverpool will be one of those teams remains to be seen, though, as they are currently fifth but Chelsea, Everton and Brentford are not far behind them.
