Noah Okafor Leeds United
Leeds United’s Noah Okafor in uncertain to feature in Switzerland’s friendly clash against Norway on Tuesday.
The Premier League side invested £18m [€20.7m] to sign the winger from AC Milan last August and he has four goals and an assist in his debut season in England.
His performances for Leeds United weren’t enough to make it to Switzerland manager Murat Yakin’s squad. In fact, he last made an appearance for his country in November 2024.
Last October, Sport Witness relayed news he had a misunderstanding with the coach during Euro 2024. His attitude and efforts during the tournament were called into question.
The Whites man publicly lashed out at Yakin and the national team director, Pierluigi Tami, after he didn’t make it to the squad in November.
Yakin and Tami made a trip to England in February to hold direct talks with Okafor. The former opened the door for his national team return in March, before a setback ruled him out.
The player returned to the pitch in Leeds United’s goalless draw against Brentford before the international break. Last week, Yakin made a late call to include him in the squad for the two matches this month. Originally, it was thought Okafor would miss out due to fitness issues, but he made it in the end.
Leeds United player doubtful
Tuesday’s edition of Neue Zürcher Zeitung previews Switzerland’s friendly against Norway later today.
Noah Okafor was an unused substitute in 4-3 friendly loss to Germany last week. The newspaper now reports the plan was for him to get some minutes against Die Mannschaft.
However, that wasn’t possible because he picked up an injury during the warm-up. It’s not clear whether the Leeds United man has recovered from this knock as his involvement against Norway now is “questionable”.
In other words, the former AC Milan man is doubtful to feature for his country for the first time in over 15 months. If he isn’t ready it’s another cruel twist of fate for Okafor and he could be forgiven for feeling his involvement with Switzerland is somewhat cursed.
Situation won’t please Leeds United
Noah Okafor’s latest fitness situation will be a concern for Daniel Farke and his side.
The manager will hope the attacker’s injury isn’t serious and that he is fully fit once he returns to the club. Leeds United face West Ham United in the FA Cup quarterfinal after the international break.
He wasn’t 100% fit in the run up to the international break, and that theme has continued.
