Aston Villa
Aston Villa have been pursuing a move for Bournemouth’s Marcos Senesi but are facing competition from Barcelona and Juventus.
Last week,Sport Witness covered the Argentine’s situation, with Unai Emery’s side likely in the lead for his signature. This was mainly due to financial reasons, as Juventus wouldn’t be able to pay Senesi as much as the Birmingham club.
The Old Lady have made an initial offer to the defender, who has expressed interest in a move to Turin. However, he is believed to be taking his time over a decision, perhaps waiting for something better.
Today,TuttoSport go deeper into the situation and Aston Villa are on the end of their fire.
Villans belittled by TuttoSport
The newspaper describe Senesi as Juve’s back-up for Real Madrid’s Antonio Rudiger. While that in itself sounds questionable, there is belief that the Bianconeri’s move for Senesi isn’t easy at all.
Competition isn’t a problem but the Argentina international’s wage demands are. Aston Villa will be able to afford what he wants and so will Barcelona, with Senesi demanding€5m per season.
That figure is likely to be after tax.
Juve have informed the Bournemouth player’s entourage that they won’t be paying that – especially if they finish outside the top four.
Beyond that, TuttoSport describe Aston Villa as a ‘clearly less attractive club’ than Juve. They also make it clear that if Senesi joins Barcelona, he would only be a back-up option for the Catalans. if he joins Aston Villa, they believe it will only be for the money.
These are reported as warnings, with Juve seen as the ideal move. They will offer a starting spot in the backline. The Turin can still offer regular Champions League football, even if the defender won’t earn as much as he wants.
Our take: Juventus now panicking over deal
TuttoSport’s report smacks of panic. It hints that Juve are probably going nowhere with their interest in Senesi and are trying their best to discourage the player from joining other clubs.
As of now, there is every chance Aston Villa qualify for the Champions League. That makes the newspaper’s take even more ironic. While Juve are a more prestigious club, they haven’t been close to winning a Scudetto in many years. Like Emery’s side, they too are pushing for a spot in the Champions League.
In a way, a move to Villa Park might guarantee Senesi more stability. Juve have become infamous for lacking any recruitment or sporting strategy, leading to them being where they are right now. Stability, meanwhile, has become a hallmark for Aston Villa under Emery.
