If Arne Slot is to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, an intriguing new candidate could be emerging in Newcastle’s Eddie Howe.
The Englishman is widely considered one of the best coaches in the Premier League, but this campaign has been difficult.
Following a historic trophy-winning season, Newcastle have regressed massively. They sit 12th in the table, hurt by the outgoings they were forced to authorise in the summer — most notably, Alexander Isak going to Liverpool.

Claims of doubts in the manager have begun to circulate this week, and it might present Liverpool with a summer opportunity.
Newcastle could part ways with Eddie Howe
Despite Liverpool fans grading Arne Slot’s season a D, the club have not yet indicated that they are planning a personnel change.
That will naturally be dependent on how the next few weeks go, and the same can be said about Howe at Newcastle.

A report from the Daily Mail says Howe’s ‘long-term future is in doubt’ as the Magpies continue to struggle for form.

There have been meetings with the club’s hierarchy, in which it became clear that more difficulties lie ahead with financial constraints likely to force more sales.
Newcastle plan to ‘re-assess the situation’ in the summer, but the report makes ‘no guarantee’ that the 48-year-old will still be at St James’ Park next season.
Eddie Howe similarities to Jurgen Klopp
If you watch an interview with Howe, you would find no real similarities between his demeanour and that of Jurgen Klopp.
On the pitch, though, there are some. Howe’s Newcastle are an industrious side held up by one of the most solid, physical midfield units in the league.
Defensive solidity and midfield dominance complement rapid, vertical attacking play with pace and directness. That sounds a lot like how Liverpool played during their most dominant years.

But Howe is somewhat of a tactical chameleon, who can adjust his approach based on the opponent.
This is one of the best coaches around, in a tricky situation at his current club. If he becomes available on the market and Liverpool are looking, you can be sure that avenue will be explored.
