Opinion: Everton star who was out of contract this summer may have had deal extended in secret

Everton have a number of players out of contract at the end of the season.

Vitalii Mykolenko is believed to be one Everton player who is currently due to leave on a free transfer in the summer.

Mykolenko penned a four-and-a-half-year contract in January 2022 after his sizable transfer from Dynamo Kyiv.

Which of these players do you want to see Everton SIGN in 2026?

The following names have been suggested by fans on TalkingPoints…

That would indicate the Toffees left-back in the final few months of his deal, however, it appears he may have actually had a one-year extension done in secret.

Vitalii Mykolenko may have had Everton contract extended in private

Transfermarkt, who are often on the money with all things related to contracts, report that Mykolenko’s contract now expires in 2027.

It was previously listed as 2026, so perhaps Everton have activated a one-year contract extension behind the scenes.

That would make sense as the Toffees had a one-year extension clause in James Garner’s contract, which they were prepared to take up if he didn’t sign a long-term deal.

“Hopefully he signs a new contract when the time comes but at the end of the season he’s got an option as well so obviously, we’ll be on that if we need to be,” Moyes stated last year.

Everton’s game with Man City has been rescheduled for Monday 4th May – it will be the club’s seventh Monday game of the season!

So, if Transfermarkt are accurate, Mykolenko won’t be going anywhere this summer and will remain on Merseyside for at least another season.

It wouldn’t at all be surprising if, over these next couple of months, the club announce a new long-term contract for the Ukrainian.

For now though, there’s been no official confirmation from the Toffees on Mykolenko’s potential contract extension.
