Leeds United man tipped for 'bargain' summer switch after end of loan spell

Isaac Schmidt has been tipped to make a “bargain” move away from Leeds United in the summer.

The versatile full-back was loaned to Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen in the summer along with fellow Whites fringe player Max Wober.

Werder Bremen have an option to make Schmidt’s move permanent for a reported £3.5m, but is unclear whether or not the clause will be activated. He has made just five league starts this term and Werder Bremen are not safe from relegation.

Isaac Schmidt verdict delivered

German football expert and Fotbollskanalen reporter Keven Bader, however, believes the permanent move will still materialise.

He told MOT Leeds News: “Unfortunately, neither Isaac Schmidt nor Maximilian Wober have had a particularly good season at Werder Bremen.

“Currently, it remains uncertain whether Bremen will trigger the purchase option for Schmidt. Sporting director Clemens Fritz has stated that the situation is still open, with Schmidt primarily featuring as a substitute this season.

“When it comes to Schmidt, I still believe there is added value for Werder Bremen there. It’s clear that Schmidt possesses good quality; he just hasn’t quite managed to show it on the pitch yet.

“If Bremen stay up, I still think the deal will happen, considering the price tag. It would be quite a bargain for Werder Bremen to land a Swiss international for the kind of money being discussed.”

Competition for places at Leeds United

It is currently difficult to see a way back into the Leeds fold for Schmidt and if the Whites stay up, it will only intensify competition for places.
