Manchester United youngster Jayden Ngwashi is close to a return from a four-month spell on the sidelines. Ngwashi last played for the academy at the start of November, but is now in the final stages of his recovery.

United view Ngwashi as a high-potential prospect, and he was given the opportunity to train with the first-team at Carrington in October, supplementing a session when Ruben Amorim was in charge.

Ngwashi could return in time to contribute in the FA Youth Cup. The promising 17-year-old picked up his injury before the Under-18s' campaign began in the prestigious youth competition, but his progress means he could boost United's options for the semi-final, and potential final.

Darren Fletcher's side will take on Crystal Palace in the last four. If they win, they will play either rivals Manchester City or Blackburn Rovers in the final of the competition.

Last summer, the Manchester Evening News reported that Ngwashi was attracting interest from European sides and were the first to reveal he was set to commit his future to United.

Ngwashi subsequently signed scholarship terms at Old Trafford and is now trying to push toward the first-team. United staff believe the young defender possesses an exciting profile.

The talented young central defender made his league debut for the Under-18s at the beginning of March 2025 and was handed his debut for the Under-21s a few weeks later.

Ngwashi has already represented Italy and England at youth level, although he will not have to pledge his allegiance to a nation until later in his career. He represented England's Under-17s last year.
