There were two welcome updates on the injury front ahead of the FA Cup tie at Man City, but another was not as optimistic. Elsewhere, Ibrahima Konate may have dropped a hint about his future.

Liverpool injury latest pre-Man City: Salah, Isak and Alisson

Liverpool have one more evening of international action to get through before the squad regroups for their FA Cup trip to Man City on Saturday.

There is early mixed injury news, with positive updates for Mo Salah and Alexander Isak, but a less optimistic outlook for Alisson.

• Salah: Expected to be available vs. Man City after missing Brighton defeat

• Isak: On course to rejoin full training this week, may be available for bench vs. City

• Alisson: Uncertainty remains over when he will return, following his post during the break that he would be “out of action for a while.”

It means Giorgi Mamardashvili will, in all likelihood, continue in goal on Saturday, while Salah could return straight to the XI, and Isak may find a place on the bench.

Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Stefan Bajcetic and Jayden Danns all remain sidelined alongside Alisson, with hopefully no more names added once the squad reports back to the AXA!

• Ibrahima Konate may have just dropped a hint about his intentions for his future in a recent interview, insisting “with time, we will win trophies” at Liverpool. Fingers crossed

• RB Leipzig are planning new contract talks for Liverpool target Yan Diomande, which would include a pay rise but no release clause. He would be an exciting signing for the club, but he would not be cheap

• Liverpool academy player Kyle Kelly has had a memorable international break, scoring his first senior goal for Saint Kitts & Nevis – he’s yet to even make his first-team debut for the club!

• There have been suggestions via the Echo that **Mo Salah**‘s ‘successor’ may already be at the club, with “Anfield figures” pointing to Isak, Wirtz and Ekitike. That has to be a joke, surely

10 wingers Liverpool could sign in the summer

With that in mind, Jack Lusby took a look at the possible options the club could turn to, including the likes of Yan Diomande, Morgan Rogers and Anthony Gordon. To see the full list, see the link below.

• Chelsea‘s Marc Cucurella says he “would not have made the decision” to sack Enzo Maresca and hire Liam Rosenior in the middle of the season. At least they’re respecting the ball now, though! (The Athletic)

Liverpool FC: On this day

Peter Crouch scored the perfect hat-trick on this day in 2007, scoring with his right foot, left foot, and his head as Liverpool emphatically beat Arsenal 4-1.

The Gunners had knocked the Reds out of the FA Cup and the League Cup that season so some revenge was due, as Rafa Benitez made known, and it was duly delivered.

Daniel Agger scored the other goal (the third on the day) for Liverpool at Anfield in what was George Gillett Jr. and Tom Hicks’ first game as owners of the club.

Crouch’s performance was even praised by Arsene Wenger, who said: “Everything he did was intelligent. He has the size of a basketball player but the skill of a real football player.”
