Leeds United swerve injury nightmare as baffling international update emerges: View

Leeds United midfielder Anton Stach looked to have convinced Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann of his credentials to play at the national level. But, his involvement over the past week has been minimal.

The international break is almost over with the final set of fixtures for Leeds’ key players taking place in the coming hours.

For Anton Stach, a call-up to Germany was just the reward he deserved for a stellar season in the Premier League under Daniel Farke.

Anton Stach overlooked as unused sub during Germany 2-1 Ghana on Monday night

Stach made his return to the side off the bench in a 4-3 friendly win against Switzerland last week. In his 10-minute cameo, the Leeds star didn’t really have chance to prove to Julian Nagelsmann why he was wrong to overlook him for so long.

With six touches, Stach completed all four of his completed passes, and had one shot blocked as Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz won it late on.

On Monday, though, Stach was an unused sub as Germany beat Ghana 2-1 in another friendly thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Denis Undav.

Favoured in midfield ahead of Stach against Ghana were Brighton’s 34-year-old midfielder Pascal Groß, and Stuttgart star Angelo Stiller. Off the bench, Nagelsmann turned to Josha Vagnomann and his personal favourite Leon Goretzka.

Injury boost for Leeds United – Anton Stach not used for Germany and avoids fresh setback

With seven games to go, the worry is that this international break brings a setback for multiple players in the squad.

Because, a major injury now effectively ends a player’s season. Stach has had more than his fair share of setbacks this season. It’s worth remembering he played through a broken rib and finger earlier in the campaign.

However, given that Nagelsmann is still somehow unwilling to give Stach a fair go, it actually benefits us.

The last thing we needed was our best midfielder suffering a new injury with such important weeks ahead. Him staying fit is the best case scenario.

With West Ham up in the FA Cup, I could see Daniel Farke handing him a start. With others featuring in this international break, Stach might be looking much fresher than most.
