Accompanied by a number of photos of the defender, Everton said: “Michael Keane appreciation post.”

Everton have already extended James Tarkowski’s stay in a clear indication that the defenders’ age is not an issue for Moyes.

Keane has been a real surprise package for the Toffees this season, which leaves the club with an interesting decision to make on his future.

Keane contract marks easy win for the Friedkins

As Everton push for European qualification, the Blues are going to need a squad filled with quality.

Although Keane may not be a player whom fans necessarily want to see starting games in Europe, he has shown his quality in the Premier League.

Keeping the likes of Keane and Idrissa Gana Gueye at the club this summer would mark two easy wins for the Friedkins.

It would add to the strength of their squad and maintain the funds available for Angus Kinnear and Moyes to go out and improve the team.

There are some Everton fans who want Keane to be handed a new deal, but it is a divisive topic.

Keane has played 27 times for Everton this season in the Premier League and returned three goals in those games.

With Jake O’Brien potentially returning to his natural position, it could even demote Keane down to becoming the fourth-choice centre-back.
