Tottenham could be beaten to one of their reported transfer targets this summer.
Tottenham could be beaten to a reported transfer target as Robert De Zerbi casts an eye ahead to the summer transfer window. De Zerbi has been appointed on a long-term deal despite initial hesitancy over taking over at this stage of the season, given the situation Tottenham are in.
Spurs are just one point ahead of the relegation zone and in desperate need of a spark. The North London club are hoping De Zerbi can provide it to dodge a Championship campaign.
If Tottenham do dodge the drop, they are going to need to invest significantly to avoid a third straight bottom half finish, and the club surely knows that after another disastrous campaign.
One player Spurs have been linked with is Leeds United centre-back Pascal Struijk, who is being tipped to make a step up due to his contract expiring in 2027.
Leeds United may have to sell if Struijk doesn’t want to renew his contract, and Spurs are said to be interested. But according to SportsBoom, Aston Villa are now preparing to make an opening offer of around £20million.
Leeds are said to want as much as £30million, but Villa are likely to hold an advantage over Tottenham due to the fact they are likely to be playing Champions League football next season, while Spurs won’t have any European football at all.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke is a big fan of Struijk’s, and he will be desperate for the Yorkshire club to keep him. He said after the defender’s performance against Everton this season: "I think he was outstanding, top performance, really like a colossus in the defence, won many, many headers.”
Leeds look likely to stay up this season, but the 26-year-old may want to seize the opportunity to join a club that can compete in Europe and/or for trophies.
