Leeds United dealt brutal transfer blow by Euro club – Expensive mistake highlighted

Leeds United loaned out Jack Harrison to Fiorentina in the January transfer window, and the Serie A side have already made their minds up on him.

United’s return to the Premier League saw Daniel Farke and the 49ers have to make some tough squad decisions.

Included in that were outgoings, as well as one controversial reintegration to the squad. Jack Harrison returned from his two-year spell at Everton looking to put a prickly pre-season reception behind him.

Jack Harrison toiling on loan at Fiorentina as he’s replaced by left-back on the wing

Harrison never stuck the landing back at Elland Road. Booed whenever he set foot on the pitch by Leeds fans eager to remind him of the 24 months he gladly spent away while we were in the EFL.

So, a loan move away in January came as no shock. He joined relegation-threatened Fiorentina in January.

While La Viola’s results have improved a lot under new manager Paolo Vanoli, Harrison’s performances haven’t exactly been the catalyst.

He’s got one assist to his name in the purple of Fiorentina in a 2-2 draw at home to Torino, But, he’s since lost his starting berth to Fabiano Parisi.

Parisi, 22, was previously (loosely) linked with a move to Elland Road. It’s worth noting the Italian is a left-back by trade. But, he has still muscled Harrison out of a starting role on the right-wing.

Fiorentina chiefs make their minds up on Jack Harrison – Leeds United return expected this summer

In an equally brutal and unsurprising development, Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport report that La Viola are already virtually decided on what to do with Harrison this summer.

Fellow loanee, and Leeds promotion hero Manor Solomon is well-liked in Florence, but Harrison is not favoured by higher-ups.

They report that sporting director Fabio Paratici and technical director Roberto Goretti have essentially already decided that Harrison won’t be signed permanently.

Unless something drastic changes with trhe winger’s form, he’s heading back to Elland Road this summer.

When Leeds sanctioned Harrison’s move to Italy, there was a £6million buy option included. It looks as though Fiorentina are far from convinced that even this sum is worthwhile spending.

Leeds United have another expensive Jack Harrison headache coming our way this summer

That long-term deal that Harrison signed in April 2023, weeks before we were relegated, is looking like more baffling business with every update on him. Harrison has still got two more years to run on that deal.

He’s not wanted by anyone at the moment. We can’t shift him from the wage bill, and no clubs who’ve signed him on loan want to keep him, even for £6million. That is a modest sum by today’s standards for a top-flight winger.

What we do with him from here on remains a mystery. What we can certainly say is that there’s even less chance of him reviving his Leeds career.

Farke was justified in his view of giving the winger a second chance during pre-season. However, he learned quite quickly why Everton weren’t eager to bring him back permanently.
