Liverpool return to action this weekend following the international break. The Reds went into the pause on the back of their 10th Premier League defeat of the season.

This Saturday, Arne Slot’s side face Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals, hoping a trophy can salvage their 2025/26 campaign.

Meanwhile, in women’s football, Liverpool secured a hard-fought 3-2 Merseyside derby victory over Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Ceri Holland scored twice, and an own goal from Martina Fernandez completed the Reds’ tally, despite captain Grace Fisk being sent off shortly after the hour mark. Everton’s goals came from Aurora Galli’s deflected free-kick and a stoppage-time finish from Zara Kramzar.

Liverpool dominated the early stages at Goodison Park. Kirsty Maclean had the first shot on goal, while Mia Enderby saw an effort blocked after Holland’s cross caused a scramble in the box.

Liverpool took the lead after 10 minutes when Fisk’s deflection inside the area earned a penalty, which Holland converted. The Reds doubled their advantage when Fernandez inadvertently headed Alejandra Bernabe’s cross into her own net.

Holland then scored her second, a brilliant solo effort following a clever flick from Beata Olsson. Everton began to respond in the second half, and Galli pulled one back with a deflected free-kick. Minutes later, Fisk was sent off for a second bookable offence, leaving Liverpool to defend their lead with 10 players.

Despite Everton’s pressure, including a stoppage-time goal from Kramzar, Liverpool held firm to secure all three points. Everton have been handed a massive injury blow as Inma Gabarro suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during the match. She left the field in the 55th minute and was replaced by Kelly Gago.

A club statement read: “Everton can confirm forward Inma Gabarro sustained an anterior cruciate ligament knee injury against Liverpool on Saturday. The Spain international was forced off in the 55th minute during the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

“A scan this week confirmed Gabarro’s injury and the 23-year-old will now undergo rehabilitation under the care of Everton’s medical team. Everyone at Everton is thinking of Inma and wishes her all the best with her recovery.”

Everton sit eighth in the league with 20 points, three points clear of Liverpool, who are in tenth place after 19 matches. Everton’s remaining fixtures include home matches against Chelsea and Leicester City, as well as an away trip to Arsenal.
