Newcastle United are tipped to go back into the market this summer for a new striker

Newcastle United have been urged to avoid a move for Dominic Solanke as attention turns to how the club can improve going forward.

Solanke, who worked with Toon manager Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, is currently as Tottenham Hotspurs and has been linked with a move to Tyneside.

Less than a year ago, United splashed out more than £130 million on strikers Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa but both have struggled to find their clinical touch this season - with just 11 goals between the pair.

That return - of which Woltemade has nine - has led to reports that The Magpies will return to the transfer market to sign a new striker. Solanke who has three Premier League goals this season, is in the middle of a fight for safety with Spurs in danger of being relegated to The Championship.

But speaking on The Everything is Black and White Podcast, host Andrew Musgrove, is hoping the reports of interest in Solanke don't turn into a reality.

“It's a no from me," he said on The Monday Show. "It should be a no from everyone watching and listening.

"He's 28, he's 29 later this year. He cost Spurs £65million quid, including the add-ons. He's a record buy but only has 22 goals in 61 games.

"He's had his injury problems as well. I think he's a good striker. I think he will score you goals, but he's not for Newcastle United."

Reports suggest that Spurs would be willing to let Solanke go for £50 million - marking a £15 million loss but there's also a belief from some that the England international could lead the charge back to the top flight if Tottenham fell out of the Premier League.

Solanke also has a chance to head to the USA with England for this summer's World Cup which could add to his price tag - if he was to have a good tournament.

However, even a price cut deal couldn't persuade Musgrove that Solanke should be top of the shopping list this summer.

"If it was a cut price [maybe I'd be for it], but you'd be talking £30m-£35m tops, you wouldn't want to pay more than that.

"Given his age, given that there are real concerns over injuries, and I think he's a talented player but if Newcastle United are going to go back into the market for a striker after spending the best part of £130 million pounds last summer, then Dominic Solanke is not the answer."
