Aston Villa star sends Bologna warning ahead of latest showdown

Clubs face-off this month for the third time in two seasons.

Amadou Onana has warned Villa they must be ready to battle when hostilities with Bologna are resumed in the Europa League.

The clubs will meet for the third time in two seasons in a quarter-final tie this month, with the stakes having never been higher.

Villa beat their Italian opponents in both last year’s Champions League and the Europa League group stage earlier this season.

But Onana believes Unai Emery’s men will need to be at their best if they are to make it three wins out of three and qualify for the last-four.

The midfielder said: “We can’t stop facing them. Champions League, earlier this year in the Europa League and now again.

“I think it is going to be a tough battle. European games are just different. Every team is as strong as you are, everyone wants to go through. We will have to be at our best, if we are going to go through.”

Belgium international Onana is one of several players who will return to Bodymoor Heath later this week to begin preparations for the first leg tie in Italy on April 9.

Villa then host the return leg on April 16, after resuming their Premier League campaign at Nottingham Forest on April 12.

A John McGinn goal was enough to earn victory over Bologna back in September, in the first match of the Europa League group stage.
